All settled in to our new space at Stars Antique Mall

And I finally remembered to take my camera to take pictures!  We moved from a wall booth to a back corner booth.  I LOVE how much more light this new space has.

Hmmmmm . . . It looks kind of cluttered and disorganized from this view!  Still figuring out the best way to display in this ‘more open’ space.  These pics were taken last week, so there’s still a bit of Halloween stuff in front there.

Awesome BIG old advertising letters.

Jelly cupboard we made using an old screen for the door.

Old cutting boards, cabbage shredder and rolling pins.

BIG vintage tool carrier, set on it;s end like this makes for a fun side table!

Lotsa frames!  And a turquoise and black checkerboard.

Old suitcases and a shabby dresser.

Pantrywares.

Little table and shabby Paris lamp.

Little footed trunk.  (that was a breadbox in it’s former life!)

Vintage wood child size ironing board, wood bowls and an old child’s broom.

Another bistro table and chairs set

The first bistro table and chairs set in our booth at Stars Antique mall sold in a week!  One of those “yahoo!” ~ “uh-oh” kind of times because I didn’t have anything ready to replace it!  I had JUST spent several hours rearranging the space to accommodate a table and chairs and was not in the mood to fully rearrange it again.  What do we have that I can quickly fix up (IN ONE DAY!) to make another bistro set from?!?!?

We have several barstools and plywood tops for tables.  Those are pretty quick to put together and paint.  But all the chairs needed a lot of work.  All we had that would be ‘quick was a pair of these gar stools with white metal bases for the chairs:

The PROBLEM was the table and the stools were the same height!  So we had to devise something to raise the table.   Michael suggested a ‘box’ to mount to the top of the wood stool we were using for the table base.  Sounded fine to me.  I figured you wouldn’t be able to see it anyhow.  I went to work painting the tops of the two stools.

I just happened to wander back into the workshop as Michael was positioning the table top on top of the stool base with the ‘box riser’.  “No, no, NO!  That’s not going to work!” exclaimed the designer.  (moi!)  “Sure it will,” said the builder; “I’ll attach this here and that there and it will hold plenty tight.”

“But it looks WRONG!”  bemoaned the designer, who had thought the wood box would not be visible, but had discovered that it GLARED it’s presence!  “We’ve GOT to have it round all the way up for it to look right!”  she added.  “And you want to have this done WHEN?????” asked the builder.  Today, of course, so it can be delivered tomorrow!  Think . . . think . . . think QUICK, what do we have that we can use to make that square riser ROUND?  How about some metal flashing?!?!?

I was SOOOOO focused on getting this thing done that i didn’t take a picture of what THE BOX looked like on it’s own.  But seeing how much the metal flashing is visible in this photo, you can imagine what it looked like to have a square there instead of a round.  Michael just used some super tacky glue to ‘place’ the flashing, them nailed it to the wood seat of the bar stool base!  TA~DA!!

I LOVE how the flashing looks!  Might even have to use this method again ON PURPOSE!

I painted the table and seats ‘opposing’ colors and pattern.

Here it is set up in our space at Stars:

Our booth needs a NAME!!!

We’ve had a spaceat the Stars Antique mall in the Sellwood area since last December.  Moved into a bigger space after just a couple of months.  For ‘most’ of this time I have had a ‘mixed bag’ of items . . . some primitive, some shabby cottage, some handmade that goes with vintage

 . . . nothing ‘difinitive’ though.

I was hoping to detect a PATTERN as to what was selling the best, and then focus on that particular style.  Alas, a little bit of everything always sold.  But I really wanted to have a THEMED space.  Those are the kinds of spaces I am always drawn to visit the most.

I finally decided that I was just going to have to ‘pick a theme’ and go for it.  I decided upon SHABBY PARIS APARTMENT, and then I can mix in some ‘French Country’ too.  I’ve wanted to hang a sign in our space too, and was thinking that when I made new signs for the store that I could ‘cut down’ the old signs and use the ‘Sophie’s Cottage’ part only to hang in our booth.  Well, two years out in the Oregon weather took it’s toll on the signs and they were not salvageable.

I was in NO MOOD to hand paint another Sophie’s Cottage sign!  If I was going to MAKE something, I wanted something that would really catch their eye.  I spotted some pretty aqua gift bags.  I have lots of aqua tissue paper at the store.  I’d make a sign out of those!

Here’s what I came up with.  First I put some empty  boxes in the bottom of the bags so they’d stand up nice.  I printed up the word ‘Paris’ using different fonts on my computer.  Cut those out and mounted them on various patterns of a very light aqua scrapbook paper which I mounted to a piece of cardstock.  Cut each one into a ‘tag shape’ with two holes at the top so I could just slip it onto the bag via the handle (which came out and went back in very easily)  Fluffed and stuffed some tissue paper into each bag and Voila!

They sit perfectly on the shelf we put up in our space.  And if I ever change my mind I can easily just change out the wording; or just do something totally different and take the gift bags home to use as gift bags!
