Word of Mouth

Michael and I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a meal at ‘Word of Mouth Bistro’ in Salem, Oregon; and we MUST share our dining experience.  Afterall, ‘word of mouth’ IS the best form of advertising!

First off I have to say that Michael is a very ‘simple eater’.  A good grilled cheese sandwich and he is a happy camper.  He’s not too adventurous when it comes to food. I, on the other hand, am a borderline ‘foodie’.  Twenty seven years working in the restaurant business will do that to you.  I love new and unique food combinations and I KNOW a good place to eat when I see one.

Truly a ‘neighborhood bistro’, this quaint little eatery was created in this wonderful old and charming Craftsman home.  Steve and Becky Mucha have created a ‘to die for’ menu with wonderfully fresh and locally grown foods.

The purpose of our visit was to deliver some custom-made items that Becky had ordered from us.  We offered to deliver them in person, and she offered to buy us lunch.  Having been forewarned that they are VERY busy, we targeted our arrival for close to the end of their business day, which is 3pm.  But it was still quite busy!  A little too late in the day for lunch, but too early for dinner; Michael and I both opted for a big bowl of clam chowder.   Which was VERY yummy.  Becky treated us to an ‘appetizer’ of their infamous “creme brulee French toast’.  OMG!!!  It’s almost TOO yummy for breakfast, and could easily be served as dessert.

We could have easily scarfed that baby down in minutes, but we wanted to save room for our chowder.  We saved the rest of the french toast, which reheated beautifully for Michael’s breakfast the next day.    I really wish we lived closer because I truly would go out to eat there on a regular basis.  After so many years of working with food, I actually AVOID going out to eat much anymore.  I’ve just seen and tried it all and it’s just the same ole, same ole stuff.

But not at Word of Mouth Bistro !  If you are ever in the Salem area, DO look them up and stop in for breakfast or lunch.  You can peek at their menu here:
