12.29.12 stars Val buys 086I posted some stuff I bought from Save on Crafts   after finding the link on Pinterest a while back.  And I just ‘treated myself’ to a few more things.  Supply stuff that I will use to make things to sell, but I still consider it a ‘treat’ for myself given that I am in serious ‘get rid of stuff’ mode.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 087How cute are these ceramic birds?!?!  They came as a set of three.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 088They will be getting crowns, of course.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 089And maybe a little ‘key necklace’ , like I did on this bird:

12.29.12 stars Val buys 134The new blue birds are about twice as big as that white one though.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 093I can’t resist KEYS!  These repro skeleton keys came on the ring shown, but it easily opens to remove the keys for individual use.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 096I’ve seen this crazy COOL printed crinkly paper wire edged ribbon around for quite a while now; at crazy high prices.

Even from Save On Crafts (which is cheaper than retail but not quite as cheap as wholesale, BUT does not have ‘minimums’ like most wholesale does) it was a tad pricey.  I will be using it VERY sparingly!

12.29.12 stars Val buys 097Moss covered wire!  Pretty cook, eh?!?!?  Will probably use this to add to birds’ nests.  Perhaps as a HANDLE to the nest can be hung?  Maybe even just to make some moss wire balls to toss in with some moss rocks.

Got another spool of the burlap ribbon, in a wider size this time.  As you can see, this stuff is NOT ‘real’ burlap ribbon, but a synthetic.  I like the little bit of sparkle it has.

Figure I can use this on things where real burlap just won’t work.  but I DO have lots of real burlap ribbon too, which I love working with as well.  Might try to stamp some designs on this stuff to sort of replicate that paper ribbon.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 101Some pretty pale green JUTE twine.   Not sure how I will use this, but I’m sure I’ll think of something.  I’ve done quite a few ‘jute wrapped’ jars and vases in the past, maybe I try one with this green jute!

12.29.12 stars Val buys 103And this satin ribbon is my big BOO-BOO!  It looked more AQUA on the website, hence I bought a lot of it.  Alas, it’s very GREEN.  I’m sure I can use SOME of it, but I really don’t need FIVE spools of it.  Selling the 4 extras via my etsy shop.

It’s strange, because I could tell the jute was green when I ordered it, but the ribbon looked more like the same color as this other ribbon I bought the last time.  In THEIR defense, it was called MINT GREEN ribbon.  Just one of those colors that seems to have lost of different interpretations.  Live and learn!

12.29.12 stars Val buys 105This is a set of vintage style bird post cards, in a cool tin box.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 106

Will frame these to sell at Stars and in my etsy shop.

12.29.12 stars Val buys 107A pretty good deal for the price; two of each style of postcard.

  1. So I wondered about the aqua and green color thing this year. I love the aqua you use,,, but I read the emerald green is the “in” color this year. Will you use more of that or stick to what you know sells? I really love reading your posts and seeing your great ideas and must get myself on down to “Stars” to buy. I live in Hillsboro and don’t get down that way much,, but did buy from you at EHNB when you were there.

    • Thanks for your comment Cleo. Ya know, I never did ‘put much stock’ into what the ‘predicted trendy colors’ the powers that be chose every year. Honestly I think it’s some think-tank somewhere who just picks a color out of a hat and says it’s the new ‘IN” color and the industries buy into it and ‘create a trend’. To me, a REAL trend is one that evolves on it’s own; not one that is ‘predicted’. JMHO!

I have NEVER been a fan of emerald green. Maybe because we see enough of it out our front door every day here in Oregon! Back ‘before I knew better’ I did have a home furnished with almost all hunter green though.

I have learned the hard way to STICK WITH WHAT SELLS. Why mess with success? I have tried ‘adding in’ a little bit of a vintage medium green and pink now and then, and always end up repainting the furniture! So for me it’s NEUTRALS (white, cream, tan, black, brown) and my infamous ‘beachy blue’.

But I will say add that my beachy blue color has evolved and changed over the years. Originally is was a very vivid turquoise and I’ve gradually toned it down to a softer aqua/ robin’s egg blue. And as long as it keeps selling, I’ll keep doing it!

It’s really NOT a bad drive from Hillsboro out to Stars. I live in GASTON, and it only takes me just under an hour (depending on traffic).
