Pretty wedding gift wrap

P1160167I had a wedding gift to wrap recently, but didn’t have any ‘wedding type’ paper or ribbon!  Time to improvise.

P1160168I ALWAYS have aqua wrapping paper, so I wrapped it in aqua, then I just looked at it like a ‘blank canvas’ and rummaged through my paper craft stuff for embellishments.

The birds are laser cut felt; purchased from craft store.

Two (one large, one small) tea stained doilies, and one aqua doily from craft store.  (RE:tea staining – I had these doilies already stained.  whenever I need something like that, I do a whole batch of them.  Then NEXT time I need one, it’s ready to use!)

The little heart was from a package of ‘table scatter’ hearts from the dollar store.  The little “I do” a scrap book embellishment.

Really, once I figured out WHAT I wanted to do, it was pretty quick and easy to apply.  It’s figuring out the DESIGN that takes time!

Gift box re-cap

Thought it might be a good idea to show ALL the gift boxes I’ve made this season, all in one post together.  So, if you’re thinking you already seen all of the following pictures; you’re right!  So this post is really more for future reference and for posterity!

12.12.12 projects Stars 070Dollar Tree gift boxes, topped with DT nests and eggs (I glittered the eggs and added some reindeer moss to fill out the nest)  The bow on the was on top of the box when I bought it. Just pulled it off (since it would have been covered by the nest anyhow!)  and put it back on where it was visible!

12.12.12 projects Stars 055White fabric covered boxes; tea stained; topped with a tea stained crepe paper rosette and  DT feather birds with a glitter crowns.

12.5.12 finds crafts Stars 079
A couple more of the same boxes, just different ‘toppings’ that the previous ones shown.   These are topped with bundles of vintage frosted glass ornaments; some ribbon, a glittery snowflake and a tiny ‘joy’ tag.  (tag was printed on vintage dictionary page)

12.5.12 finds crafts Stars 025This is just one of those ‘little extras’ that I like to do.  I add a handful of paper shred inside all of my gift boxes.  This is my own ‘recipe’ for paper shred; a combination of store bought kraft shred, hand folded and cut book pages and sheet music shred, hand folded and cut tissue paper, some bits of leftover gold ribbon cut into tiny pieces . . . you get the idea.  A little bit of everything!

12.5.12 finds crafts Stars 085
Another DT box topped with a pair of white bottle brush trees and little ceramic house; all also from DT.   I just added glitter and glue!  (and paper shred!)

12.5.12 finds crafts Stars 056These are ‘use up those leftover snowmen from the store’!  Just plopped a snowman on a box and done!  (priced super cheap to get rid of them PLUS an additional 40% off for my downsizing sale!)

11.28.12 esty Stars 048Another one of the tea stained fabric boxes, this time topped with a gold resin bird wearing a vintage sheet music crown.  I placed a crepe paper rosette rimmed with gold glitter on top of the box and glued the bird into place in the center of that.  The sheer bow on top of the bird’s feet (hiding all the ugly glue!) is the bow that came on the box originally again.  Just pulled it off and made better use of it!

11.28.12 esty Stars 079I should have made more of these, as they sold the fastest.  Now I’ll know for next year.  AND I’ll be able to easily find my ‘gift box post’ to remind me when the time comes!

Thinking Christmas

Usually by this time of year I am knee deep in Christmas crafting projects; so I am REALLY behind schedule this year.   Got these little Gold star bowl fillers done the other day:

I’ve had the gold mesh stars for a while now, just didn’t know what to do with them!  First I printed up some words on my compter and cut them into little individual tags and glued one to each star.

Then I happened upon these gold rim ‘pedestal’ bowls I made a while ago and had packed away. (I think I was going to fill these with handmade snowballs!)   The little stars would be perfect in these!

So then I was trying to decide how to package them to sell.  It never works to sell stuff  ‘in sets’ at the antique mall.  (IE the bowl WITH the stars in it.  The stars will ‘disappear!)  So I had to make the stars ‘difficult to steal’.  Cello bags work great because they are NOISY!  hehe

Unfortunately, for the sake of picture taking, cello also creates quite a glare!  (sorry!) To pretty up the packaging a little I added some of my custom basket fluff.  (made using assorted pre-packaged basket filler products and some hand cut vintage book and music pages)

And I used some scrap card stock to make header cards, for a more polished look.

These little stars would be cute to use at holiday place settings; or scattered on a platter of pillar candles for a centerpiece.  Great as a little holiday hostess gift too!

SAVINGS ALERT! Michael’s Craft Stores ‘Friends & Family’ sale. 20% off your entire purchase

I copied the coupon ‘just to show you’.  Just so I’d have a picture in this post.  Be advised that you CANNOT print and use THIS coupon.  I’m assuming they have coupons AT the stores that you can ask for.  Sign up for their email list to get their ads and coupons on a regular basis.  Seems like they do these ‘% off total purchase’ sales four or five times a year.  (Sometimes the % off INCLUDES clearance items!  Always read your coupon carefully!)

Thursday, September 30 – Saturday, October 2, 2010.

These sales are a great time to stock up on things that never go on sale, or that you use a LOT of.  For me it’s varnish, adhesive, candles, ribbon, rubber stamps.

It’s a GREAT time to add to your ‘gift box’.  You don’t have a ‘gift box’??  What IS a ‘gift box’?  It’s a box full of little gifts that I keep on hand for whenever I need a quick gift.  I try to add to it whenever I find things on sale.  This way, whenever I need a gift in a HURRY, I can just go to my ‘gift box’ and grab something.  Saving  myself an extra trip to the store and from spending more money for a last-minute gift than I really wanted to (or should!) spend.

Try it, you’ll LOVE it!

Little sticky note clipboards

Inexpensive cork back coasters and binder clips from the dollar store.

Cover the ‘design side’ of the coaster with some pretty scrapbook paper (I used tacky glue) Add a pad of sticky notes and a binder clip to keep them in place.

Easy peasy!  AND handy-dandy!  Now your sticky notes won’t pull off on their own or come apart and lose their stickiness!

Easy little gift, stocking stuffer or party favor!
