LOTS on new cloches

12.26.12 Valentine crafts 015Had these sitting on my work table for MONTHS!

12.26.12 Valentine crafts 016And had collected all the glass for them for months before that!

12.26.12 Valentine crafts 017I’m not sure exactly WHY, but I seem to have ‘a thing’ about taking new product to my booth at Stars in ‘big batches’.  I suppose a larger quantity of any item makes a better ‘statement’.    Whatever!  That is just how I do it.  No real reason.

12.26.12 Valentine crafts 027This time I have a lot of small/medium cloches.  No new BIG ones; but still have several of the big ones I took in previously still available.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 081I put some of the tallish ones over these little pink glitter owls.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 073Did a few like this, to fit atop these cupcake pedestals.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 096Some of the same shape and size as on the cupcake stands available to buy separately.  (fits quite nicely in the center of that silver rimmed salad plate, doesn’t it?)

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 083

A little bell cloche atop this tiny green ‘bliss’ bottle.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 090These are a few of the bigger ones that have been there for a while now.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 097

A bigger one with a small one under it, a smaller one on the left and a pretty apothecary jar on the right.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 098A trio on top a stack of old books.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 099Some more tall ones over glitter owls and some little ones.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 104Vintage ceramic doll hands for the handles on these two that are covering an owl salt and petter set.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 105A cluster of tulip shaped ones.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 136

A bigger on that has been in stock for a while atop one of the candle jars with keys.

1.9.13 stars projects ribbon 139Assorted owls and new ones.

SO, if you need a cloche of just about ANY SIZE, I probably have it.

Battery operated grubby candles: tea lights AND TAPERS!

Tis the season for candlelight. Gotta love the battery operated candles and not having to worry about them getting knocked over and starting a fire!

I’ve updated the e-book for the battery operated tea lights to now include the battery operated tapers and pilars.

I did a LOT of research before putting this e-book together.  Tried MANY different “how to’s” that others were peddling.  Layers and layers of mod podge, and rolling in spices between each layer, and hours of drying time between each coat???  Are you kidding me!  I wanted something FAST AND EASY ~ and that looked like REAL candles.

Several of the crafters I asked said they just “dunked the whole tea light base into their wax mixture”  then once they cooled, peeled away the wax covering the bottom and the little bit that got on the bulb.  Two things wrong with THAT technique:  My OLD arthritic fingers are not nimble enough to hang on to the dang thing ‘by that tiny bulb’; and I don’t want to have to scrap or peel wax off !  That might be an okay way to make them IF you are just doing a few for your own personal use.  BUT, I was making them in VOLUME, to sell at our store and craft shows.  I needed a fool proof, fast and easy way to make these babies!

No pun inteneded, but ‘a lightbulb finally went off in my head’ and I knew how I could make them,  in a couple of quick steps with no back tracking and un-doing.

The book also give the source for the MOLDS I used to make these tea light holders.    These silicone molds  are quite expensive so I don’t recommend buying them if you are just wanting to make  ‘a few candles for yourself’.   But the cost is totally justified if you are a crafter and making them for shows or to sell in a shop.

You can buy the e-book for $3.95 in our etsy shop here: Sophie’s Cottage

Our BIGGEST e-book ever!!!

Well, being snowed in for two weeks wasn’t entirely futile!  I managed to get another e-book written, and it’s our biggest ever!  I even had to edit it down a bit (and have the start of two more e-books thereby!) to ‘just’ 118 pages.

And launching it on New Years Eve couldn’t be more perfect.  After Christmas everyone seems to ‘purge’ their old stuff and get rid of a lot of it.   In our  “Outdated / Updated” e-book you will discover ways to KEEP that old stuff, but make it LOOK NEW!

Here are BEFORE pictures of just a few of the items that you’ll see ‘updated’ in this e-book:

Just about everything that you (or someone else) thought had seen it’s better days, we’ve taken and updated to a wonderful cottage or primitive style.  “Outdated / Updated” contains 118 before and after pictures and simple how to’s in an easy to navigate Picturetrail photo album.

You can buy it via our blog or in our  Etsy shop for $29.95.

Simply send your $29.95 payment via PayPal to folkartoriginals@yahoo.com  and note that it is for the ‘Outdated / Updated e-book.

I will send you the Picturetrail link to the album within 48 hours.

Please note:  Winter weather sometimes affects our internet connection ‘out here in the boonies’, and may delay the arrival of your book.  But I do check email every day and respond to purchases as soon as possible.

How to make your own grubby battery operated tea lights e-book

These battery operated tea lights are becoming quite popular. The ‘look’ of a candle without the worry of the flame. Not to mention you can tuck them into places like cupboards and shelves, where you could never put a ‘real’ candle.

I’ve seen the grubbied up battery operated tea lights around for YEARS. Those who have made them always described them as ‘dipped’. Now I consider myself a master grubby candle dipper. Been making them for YEARS! Could probably dip candles in my sleep even. But I could NOT for the life of me figure out how to DIP these darn little battery operated tea lights?!?!?!?

If you dip them ‘right side up’ you’re going to get wax on the bottom, which would prevent you from replacing the battery. I asked one gal who was selling them if the battery ‘door’ was accessible, and she said yes, because she dips them upside down. But then you are also covering the BULB with your wax??? I’m so confused! She said she just peels the wax off the bulb. (seems like a lot of work to me!) And besides. there is NOTHING to hold on to at the bottom to DIP them!

Well, I finally had my LIGHTBULB moment and figured out how to make them on my own!

I’ve put the instructions and pictures into an easy to follow e-book, available for purchase. I’ll be adding it to my offerings on Esty a bit later, along with my many other e-books.

These are really fast and easy to make. Not nearly as messy or time consuming as dipping candles. For the grubby dipped candles (a different e-book) I don’t recommend you make them yourself if you are only wanting to do a few of them. It would be cheaper to just buy them already done.

BUT, the battery tea lights are simple and inexpensive enough that you can easily do just a few. They make great little gifts and stocking stuffers. Really great for selling at craft shows.

Also included in the e-book is the source information for the tea light candle molds shown.
