Christmas is less than a week away!  WhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaTTT?!?!  How is it that even though Thanksgiving was early this year, basically giving us an extra WEEK between then and Christmas; that Christmas has still snuck up on me?!?!  I have not even started wrapping gift yet!  sigh.  And to further ZAP my Christmas spirit, I have to go to Costco tomorrow . . .  because I use their pharmacy for my prescriptions.  Ug!

MORE Christmas in my booth at Stars

Took the rest of my Christmas goods to Stars this week.

Both of my spaces are fuller than full!

Plenty of vintage white Ironstone dishes in my wall space.

 Unique hand crafted gift boxes, perfect for that ‘little gift’ or gift cards.

Hand painted Christmas signs, red glass jar lanterns come with a battery votive and SO CUTE little vintage style car with tree on top ornaments.

Trees.  Trees and MORE trees!  Bottle brush trees in just about every size and color; mounted on unique vintage bases: candle holders, tart tins, glass vials filled with ‘snow’, spools of thread and cherub candle holders!

‘Snowfolk’ made from vintage salt and pepper shakers are making an encore appearance this year; but it will be their final year.  Get them while you can.  Bottle brush trees and snowmen are the perfect winter decorations to leave out after Christmas and before you decorate for Valentine’s Day.

It’s SHOWTIME!!

Every Husband’s Nightmare is now open at the Washington County Fairplex in Hillsboro.  Free parking and free admission.  HOURS: Tuesday, Nov. 14 – Saturday, Nov. 18.  Open 10am – 8pm weekdays and 10am – 5pm Saturday.

Some areas were still being set up when I took pictures, so there is LOTS MORE than what my pictures show.

 I had a LOT of left over hand painted signs after closing my etsy shop; so I’ve REDUCED SIGN PRICES by up to 75% at this show.  Signs that were originally $19.95 are now just $5.00.  The rest of my signs are now just $10.00 or $15.00.   And I stocked a lot of signs for this show!  Great gifts and stocking stuffers!!

ANNOUNCING!! ‘Make and Take’ SIGN MAKING Classes

I am now offering

‘Make & Take’

sign making classes

on how to make your own sign.

I’ll provide EVERYTHING you need to make your sign.  You can choose which sign you want to make from my library of over 200 designs.

To avoid spending half of our class time watching paint dry, I’ll do the sign prep for you in advance; so when you arrive for the class, you’ll just have to stencil on your chosen design.  Your sign will be done in about an hour.

Once you know the ropes and don’t need my direct guidance anymore; you can rent studio time for $10.00 per hour.   For studio time you will need to prep and paint your own boards at home and bring them with you ‘ready to letter’.   I will explain how I prep the sign boards, so you can easily do it at home.  If you don’t have an electric sander to distress your sign boards, I can help you with sanding when you get here; as part of your studio time.

For the MAKE & TAKE classes, prices are per sign; and vary with each student, depending upon which design you choose.   Prices (and approximate sign sizes) are listed with each design.  Since you’ll be using a stencil to letter your sign, the size of the lettering cannot be altered; BUT you can make a slightly bigger sign by using a larger piece of wood.  (you’ll see this option in some of the pictures of signs.)

I will provide you with varnish to use as your final top coat, and a nail-less sawtooth hanger for hanging your sign.  These signs are NOT weather proof, and intended for indoor use only.

I only offer light colored backgrounds for signs and black lettering.

The wood for your sign will be cut to size, sanded, base coated in Black, top coated the color of your choice, edged and sanded to distress BEFORE you come to class.  I have room for up to four people per class; and it takes less than an hour to complete one sign.

New signs in my etsy shop

It’s been a very long time since I created any new designs for my etsy shop!  

This ‘Home Sweet Home’ wreath actually came to be because of a special request from one of the gals at my Post Office.  With as frequently as I am there shipping orders fro my etsy shop; they have asked ‘what I do’.  I gave them business cards so they could see my signs in my etsy shop.

One of the gals came across something on Pinterest that she wanted to replicate, and was asking for my advice on how to do so.  It was a wreath with ‘home sweet home’ in the middle (like this!) on some old wood slats.

As I was telling her how to do it, it occurred to me that it would be much easier to SHOW her how to do it.  I invited her to come over to my place where I can SHOW and tell her how to do it.  I already had a stencil very similar to the wreath she wanted, but I could NOT find a stencil anywhere that resembled what she wanted.

Sooooooo, I turned to my ‘go to’ stencil gal, Amie from ScrappinAlong and had her custom make the ‘Home Sweet Home’ stencil to my specifications.

By the way, through July 6th, she is offering a 30% discount on all stencil orders.  If you are in need of any stencils, NOW is the time to buy them!!

I had her size the ‘Home Sweet Home’ stencil to fit the center of a wreath stencil I already had, but of course it can be used alone too.  I was just using up whatever pre-painted scraps of wood I had on hand, and added the flourishes to fill the extra space.

She also designed this sign per my request; to go with the crowns I have in my booth at Stars.

The crown stencil for it is also available.  Since I’m talking about custom stencils, I may as well tell you about this one that Amie designed for me too!

It has a stencil of “… and God bless” then the entire alphabet in the same font so you can personalize the sign with any name.

What do you think about the ROUND ‘Home Sweet Home’ wreath sign??  It was a bit of an afterthought . .  . I’m kind of undecided on whether or not I like it round.  I was also thinking about a rounded one with a more scalloped edge around the leaves?? Just trying to come up with something new! I’m starting to get a little bored with making the same signs over and over again!

Beach cottage decor in my etsy shop

It’s been a while since I blogged about my etsy shop; so here you go!  A post about the great beach cottage decor items in my blog.

LOTS of Framed white fingerling starfish.

Great hung alone, or in a group.

OR hang a sea glass wreath with a couple of framed starfish.

 This is the very LAST of the sea glass wreaths that I will EVER be making.  I had stumbled upon a ‘once in a lifetime’ AMAZING buy on the glass to make these; and I’ve finally used it all up.

For as ‘simple’ as they appear to be; they are EXTREMELY time consuming to make also.  There is NO way I could actually charge for the amount of time I put into them. Lesson learned.   Even though they were so labor intensive that they can’t be make ‘profitably’; they really are beautiful in person.

When I first got the sea glass and was sorting through it, I had set aside a few ‘extra pretty’ pieces.  Some uniquely shaped; perfectly round or square or like gumdrops.  they were just too special to mix in with all the other pieces on the wreaths.  So, I put together some little ‘treasure’ boxes for them.

I custom blended this glitter for these mermaid crowns.

I bought ‘a bunch’ of these wire topped wall plaques at the dollar store, YEARS ago!

I didn’t really like them for what they WERE; rather for what they could BECOME.

That’s what I did with them ‘back when’ we had our own gift store.  I found ONE last one recently and decided it was time to use it up.

First I covered with assorted papers; including some vintage pattern paper as the last coat.  Using them as the last coat adds a nice ‘softness’ to the look and sort of ‘blends them all together’.

I painted a heart with wings; glittered the wings, and cut out words form a old book to put on the heart.

As for my ‘to paint of not to paint’ conundrum, all your comments have convinced me to NOT paint them.  At least not before I TRY to sell them ‘as is’.  I think I just get a tad ‘nervous’ about buying / selling PINK, because it has NEVER sold well for me.  sigh.

Back when we had our own shop, and I was able to divide the floor into multiple little vignettes, I had a cute little PINK area. Pink furniture and accessories, all arranged in a room-like setting.  I got more comments and ‘OOOoo00oooohs’ and “Ahhhhhhs!” on that pink area . . . .but nothing ever SOLD!!

And even when I took the ‘pink stuff’ to a show after our store closed, none of it sold.  I eventually gave up, repainted all the pink furniture and it sold right away.  Hence, my ambivalence over the pink on the vintage plaster cherub plaques.  But, I SHALL take your advice and see if they sell ‘as is’ before I potentially ‘ruin them’ by painting them all white.

I’ll be taking my Valentine inventory to my booth at Stars soon, and will include the cherub plaques.

I usually do a ‘half price sign of the month’ in my etsy shop.  As the end of May is fast approaching as well as my impending move; I was pondering what the next sale sign should be, since it’s availability will be shortened when I take my shop ‘off line’ for the move.

I’ve got a HUGE inventory of signs made for my etsy shop, which is usually a gratifying feeling.  Notsomuch when I think about packing and moving them though.  So, I smashed those two conundrums together and came up with a “HALF OFF ANY ONE SIGN SALE” in my etsy shop; now through June 12, 2015.  (the date I take my shop off-line to move.)
