Now what?!?!? How about a Garage Sale!

My etsy shop is officially closed.  So, now what?!?!  I’ve been researching other sites, and it seems that each one has as many bad reviews as good reviews; so I’m still on the fence.

In the meantime I’ve decided to have a garage sale.  This upcoming weekend is when the Rock Creek Neighborhood Association has their annual Garage Sale, so I decided to ‘piggy back’ on that.  (Where I live isn’t a part of the Assoc.)   But I can only handle sitting out in the heat for one day, so my g-sale will be Saturday only.

THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 24th ~ 10am – 3pm

20660 NW Lapine Way  Portland, Oregon  97229  Rock Creek, right by the soccer fields.

What am I selling?  Signs.  LOTS of signs leftover from my etsy shop; and priced to SELL FAST at up to 80% off the retail price.

00t0t_ixuZAzMlvaJ_600x450

These pictures are NOT a representation of the EXACT signs I will have available in the sale. But the only pictures I have to use just now.

I also have some over-stock from my booth at Stars:

Prices SLASHED from what they were in my booth!

I have  a few grubby candles left that will be for sale  (and YES, they still smell good!)  Some craft supplies.  Some general household stuff.  (like old plastic hangers – the only ones are MUCH stronger than they new flimsy ones you buy these days!)  And some home decor items that I just don’t have room for anymore!

I’m also selling ALL THESE primitive doll making supplies ‘as a lot’ (the pictures above and below!) for $50.00.  I am not putting these out as part of my garage sale, but you can buy them during the sale.  I also have the lot listed on criagslist, but also only for purchase during the g-sale hours on Saturday.

Included in this lot is:

Lots of different kinds and colors of doll hair.
Muslin doll body blanks (one already painted)
Muslin doll body ‘parts’, head/torsos, arms and legs. Some are already tea stained.
Homespun and country fabric for doll dresses.
Pre-cut and partially sewn doll dressed (to fit the above bodies.
Rusty tin and stuffed fabric angel wings
A dozen grubby tea stained baby socks, stained string and cheesecloth. (I was going to make these intl little grubby stocking ornaments.)

Come by and say hi and get some goods stuff at great prices!

P.S.  For some reason I cannot access my Facebook page or post on FB?!?! (THIS post is only showing up because it came from my blog)  My son says it’s because I don’t have enough internet speed, but I ONLY have this issue with FB; and I refuse to pay more for internet JUST to be able to use Facebook!!  SOOOO000ooooo . . .  if you need to reach me, you can send me a message via FB (that I can still access!) OR leave a comment here on my blog, or email me directly.

GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE IN MY ETSY SHOP – 50% OFF SIGNS!

I’ll explain more about ‘why?’ I’ve decided to close down my etsy shop later.  For now I need to spend time putting the sale information in all 100+ of my listings, one by one.  I got about half way through them last night.

CLICH HERE TO VISIT MY ETSY SHOP

Even though I don’t yet have the sale information in each listing, the 50% discount IS valid on ALL of the signs in my etsy shop.  You will just have to look at one of the listings on the first page to get the sale ‘coupon code’, to enter when you check out.  It will automatically deduct the 50% from the price of the sign.

Shipping remains the same.

Local shoppers whom are able to pick up their signs directly from me, and don’t need them mailed; will get their shipping costs refunded.  There is no way to automatically deduct the shipping costs; so refunding them after the fact is all I can do.  Be sure to mention that you want to pick up your purchase, and not have it mailed, in the notes to seller when you purchase.

MORE half price signs in my etsy shop!

I’ve been offering a monthly ‘half price sign’ in my etsy shop for a while now.  All of a sudden last night, FIVE of the sale signs sold within minutes!    (The ‘deal’ is, that when they’re gone, they’re GONE.  I’ll list more of them once I get them made, but at the regular price.) Most months it’s not a problem, and the sales signs DO last through the end of the month.

il_170x135.672382922_cbyq

But, I don’t want to be ‘one of those people’ who says “There’s a sale!” quickly followed by, “but we’re sold out!”  So, I was feeling the Christmas spirit big time and I ADDED three more sign styles to the half price sale for
December!

Creating new sign designs

Been doing some more ‘mixing & matching’ with my stencils to create some new sign designs.

6.14.14 projects etsy 022

I honestly can’t decide which top/bottom border I like best.  Which do you think looks best and why?  The original stencil was like the one on the right, but with the border at the bottom ONLY.  I really prefer the ‘balance’ of the borders on the top and bottom.

6.14.14 projects etsy 024I designed this specialty sign shape a while back upon request from an etsy customer.  The customer flaked out on buying the custom sign, which left me with the leftover special sign shape.  What do you think about the borders at the top and bottom of this one??

I’m really trying to stay away from using the stencils ‘as purchased’ by changing things up a bit and creating more unique designs.  etsy is getting bigger and BIGGER and there is starting to be a LOT of the SAME items being offered by a multitude of different shops.  Hoping that having designs that they don’t see all over the place and over and over again will give my sales a much needed boost.

6.14.14 projects etsy 039New style “Junk Collector” sign.  (Original stencil that I purchased was JUST the words; plain and simple.)

il_570xN.589432607_kt35

And it’s a perfectly fine sign like that.  I’m just trying to create more signs that people haven’t ‘seen everywhere’ already.

6.14.14 projects etsy 045

New style “Salle de Bains” sign; again, I just added the borders.

6.14.14 projects etsy 056“Parisserie” with borders.  Can’t decide if I like this one better, or the “French Patisserie” below better.

il_570xN.540183434_gld2With “French” being is such fancy scrolled letters, I’m thinking the borders would be TOO much added to this one.

6.14.14 projects etsy 057

ALTHOUGH . . . . the scroll lettering on this “Guest Room” works fine with the added borders.   hmmmmmm . . . .just MIGHT have to give “French Patisserie” with the borders a try!

6.14.14 projects etsy 065And this is the sign that the borders came on.

6.14.14 projects etsy 088“Laundry” has become my top selling sign; and I do already have it in several versions and sizes.  Just added this one to my repertoire.

6.14.14 projects etsy 080Bathroom signs are a close second in sign popularity in my etsy shop; so I added this new design.

Looks like a string of dry days are headed our way.  I feel a furniture painting marathon coming on!

Mixing and matching stencils

I have a LOT of stencils.  And the more I buy, the more I (think) I need!  First I ordered a stock ‘LAUNDRY’ sign.  Made several signs.  Put them in my etsy shop and they sold quite well.  BUT THEN, someone inquired about a BIGGER one.  Then someone else asked if I could make one that says LAUNDRY ROOM?!?!?  And it just snowballs from there!

6.1.13 laundry sign WONG 017

So I am trying to ‘order SMARTER’ when I have custom stencils made.  I ordered a big LAUNDRY ROOM sign and can make it with or withOUT the ‘room’ part on the end!  And on some of the smaller signs, I can make them a tad bigger by leaving more of a border around the words, like in the second from top LAUNDRY sign above.

6.1.13 laundry sign WONG 025And because I sand, basecoat, top coat and distress my sign boards well before I actually need to make signs, I often have boards to use that don’t perfectly fit the stencil.  Of course I CAN (and frequently DO!) just cut off the excess wood; sometimes I like to add some different design features.   Like the one above where I added little fleur de lis on either end to fill in the space.

5.23.13 stars etsy signs 083When I DO cut off the excess ends of signs, I save all those pieces in a big box, then when it gets full I make little signs out of them!   Like these little crowns.  These are about 3-5″ x 3-5″.

5.23.13 stars etsy signs 086And these little chandeliers on slightly bigger scraps.

5.23.13 stars etsy signs 098And signs like these . .

5.23.13 stars etsy signs 093  . .  and these . .

5.21.13 finds signs projects 162And these!   And sometimes I just stamp a big single letter on them, nad when I get a ‘box full’ will take them to one of my booths.

I’ve also been trying to think of new ways to sue some of the stencils I already have by mixing and matching parts of different stencils to create one sign.  Here’s my first ‘experiment’:

6.4.13 projects CURIOUS Stars 014For these signs I used 2-3 different stencils and a foam stamp (on the biggest one).

6.4.13 projects CURIOUS Stars 017My original small LAUNDRY sign, combined with “French” from a ‘French Market’ sign and small fleur de lis from my ‘Paris Flea Market’ sign.  Not bad for my first attempt.

6.4.13 projects CURIOUS Stars 018I was just rummaging through what I had on hand in prepped and ready to letter sign boards that I might be able to use here.  Was thinking of trying to add a border design on this bigger one; but decided that I kinda liked the bare border.    Same as the first one, just on  a larger board.

6.4.13 projects CURIOUS Stars 019And on this longer board, I use a bigger fleur de lis foam stamp.

6.4.13 projects CURIOUS Stars 014So, which layout do you like best?  I need to pick ONE to produce for selling.  (and can offer the other styles by custom order.)

Recent projects

We’re having some DRY and sunny weather here in the Northwest; albeit a tad chilly still.  I’ve been bundling up and heading outside to get some painting projects done.

Little wicker tray.  Not sure what it’s intended use is.  It’s too small to be a ‘bed tray’.  Maybe for use on a buffet table to hold silverware and a stack of plates??

I gave it a quick DRY BRUSH paint job and took it to Stars.

Another painted little suitcase; has also gone to Stars.

Treasure box with carved cherubs embellishment.  In my booth at Stars.

This was a mirror, and I was intending to leave it as such.  But, I broke the mirror while attempting to remove it to paint the frame.  Plan B:  Glue some pretty scrapbook paper to the backing and attach a couple of repro skeleton keys.  Taken to Stars.

Here’s how I attached the keys: punched holes through and ran a sheer ribbon from behind to tie around the keys; ALSO glued them in place with some e6000 adhesive.

A little stool to reupholster.

BUT I had to take all the legs off to get to the fabric and remove it.  By the time all that was done, the round particle board base was pretty ‘chewed up’ .  I decided to toss it and start over with a new (and BIGGER!) piece of wood.  Basically just reusing the legs.  Yet to be completed.

Little thrifted tool carrier.  I added a carved wood applique and painted the whole thing black; sanded a little to bring out the detail in the applique.

Taken to Stars.

Vintage doll cradle.  Just needed a new board for the bottom; painted board white to match cradle.  Stashed away for the spring show.

Shabby grubby little step ladder, stashed away for show.

Not so shabby step ladder, to be shabbied up!

A little of my beachy blue paint, dry brushed on.  Perfect!  Stashed for show.

Little vanity table, still in progress.

Working on LOTS of signs.  For my etsy shop, Stars and the spring show.

What have YOU been working on lately???

Here’s your sign!

Stack of signs ready to be lettered.

When I am making signs ‘for me’ (to sell in our space and shows) I do them ‘assembly line style’.  Michael cuts a whole bunch of boards for me.  I sand them all.  Basecoat them all with a dark (usually black) paint; then my top coat of color.  Sand, letter, sand again, stain then varnish.

All my signs will come with a sawtooth hanger on tha back; unless otherwise specified.  Other hanging options available upon request and for an additional charge.

This is a good picture showing the ‘distressing’ I do.  This batch is yet to be stained and varnished.  My technique gives the signs three colors; dark base, top coat, and stained wood where it has been sanded down to the wood.

The above batch is awaiting one more sanding, after the lettering has been added.

Once in a BLUE MOON, we happen upon some wonderful OLD painted wood like this, that we can use for signs.  It’s rarely, but when we do, it will be offered for use on signs at an additional cost.  If YOU happen to have an old piece that you want me to make your sign on, you can mail it and I’ll use it.
