Final ‘pre-market’ post.

It’s almost time!!!!

My car is already loaded.  The kids (my son and daughter in law) are helping me load the U-haul tomorrow evening, and Thursday morning we deliver to the Rebel Junk Marketplace show at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

A couple of quick pictures of some last minute items I just prepped for the show.

Several different colors of REAL dried Hydrangea.  (from MY garden!)

Shabby chic square metal birdcages.  You can see what they originally looked like in the upper left hand picture.  I dry brushed them with a soft white paint, originally just as a base coat and prep before spray painting them white and distressing them.  I decided the the dry brush looked so good that I didn’t need to do the extra work!

LOVE these red and white lace edge metal cake stands.  (I love cake stands in general though!  I have a personal collections of 8 of them!)  They are so much fun to work into booth displays; for adding height or emphasizing a certain item.

Lots of assorted glass bottles and vintage jars headed to this show.

I’ll be spending all day Thursday and Friday setting up my double wide booth.  Hoping to get done in time to take photos before the early bird shopping starts on Friday evening.   (I did NOT accomplish this last year.  sigh.)   And I’ll TRY to post some photos when I get home Friday night to give you locals a preview.

I’ll for sure have time to post pictures next week, after the show for those of you who are not local and can’t make it to the show.

HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE SHOW!

And DON’T FORGET to ASK for your 20% discount!

My new favorite color

P1340518

I’m really drawn to galvanized metal items and soft grey colors these days.  I especially LOVE the contrast of mixing them in with shabby chic white decor.  I’ll be bringing LOTS of items in this color to the upcoming Rebel Junk Vintage Market on February 2&3.

In addition to the ‘real thing’ (all of those items are already packed away for the show) I’ll have lots of faux painted items, like the ones shown above.

I’ve also got some distressed turquoise metal items, shown above.  For some reason, I decided to buy some dark turquoise spray paint a while back; and I painted these items with it.  Did not like it once they were painted though, so they have just sat in storage.  Got them out and was going to sand them to prep them for repainting, but decided that I actually LIKED the distressed dark turquoise!

These items and much MORE will be available for purchase at the

Rebel Junk Marketplace

Come visit my booth, and don’t forget to ASK for your 20% discount.  Discount given ONLY to those who have read about the show via my blog and/or Facebook page; and only if you ask.  My booth only.

Ceramic busts

Look what I found at One Kings Lane!  (I had to make the link go to their Facebook page, because the link to the site kept saying ‘cannot connect to the REAL One Kings Lane)  I am getting SO sick of that ‘issue’ lately!!! grrrrr!

They ended up being MUCH bigger than I was expecting.  My plan is to keep one for me and then ‘alter’ the other three to sell at Stars.

P1130317

This is the one I’ve decided to keep.

P1130322

Her face is very similar to the one my son and his girlfriend gave me for Christmas last year.

P1130319This one has a ‘bun’ in her hair.

P1130320Almost a smirk on her face.

P1130318Much ‘gentler’ features on this one’s face.

P1130321

Not sure just WHAT I am going to do to alter them . . .  probably paint the body part a slightly different color to start, then see what I’m inspired to do next.  Add crowns and wings?  And Santos like ‘cage bases’?  (I do have a few stashed that I found in my thrifitng rounds)

P1130325And this one????  Creeps me out a little!!!  The head is so tall and pointy!  And the mouth is so small!

P1130324Somewhat reminds me of those ALIEN pictures when I look at just a close up of the face!

Have you found any cool on-line shopping stuff lately???  Sure seems to be an abundance of ‘off price’ shopping options these days!  Zulilly is one I like to browse too!

Updating and adding some ‘oomph’!

This post is about the little green thrifted pinecone finial on the left.  A classic design.  Probably never really go out of style.  Just needs a little oomph and an update.    Perhaps something as simple as just a new paint color.

First we’ll address the oomph, and add some bulk and visual weight to the base by adding a couple more layers of beveled edge wood pieces.  The black piece is a little craft store 4″x4″ plaque.  The unfinished piece is an actual fence post topper that Michael scrounged.  I always have spare parts and pieces like this stashed away.  Another option is to use old chunky pillar candle bases.

Glue all the parts together with e6000 adhesive and let cure overnight before painting.

You can’t go wrong with basic black on such a universally appealing decor item.   Since I’m usually painting stuff that will be sold to other people (as opposed to something to decorate my own home with) I lean towards neutrals a lot on stuff like this.

This finished finial has gone to my space at Stars, for sale.
