ONE WEEK TIL SHOWTIME!!

I’m getting pretty excited for the upcoming Rebel Junk Marketplace at Washington County Fairgrounds February 2 & 3.

Still working away on a few last minute projects for the show. . . . .

This shabby bar stool and little round accent table will be available at the show.

I especially LOVE the way the tops of these two items turned out; so EXTRA grubby and shabby!  The table had a ‘fabric-like’ finish; that shows through the two coats of paint when I sanded it.  The bar stool had your standard light wood seat.  BOOOOooo0000oooRING!  I did several layers of paint and it was still not grubby enough.  Since I really liked the texture that the fabric stuff gave to the table, I decided to try something similar with the bar stool.  I applied a single layer of a two-ply paper napkin with tacky glue.  Let it dry and added another two coats of paint; black then white.  LOVE how it turned out!  Single layers of napkins are going to be my new ‘secret weapon’ I think!

I’m also paring down some of my own personal items to sell at the show.  I’ve had this sweet little set of three wicker ‘suitcases’ for well over 20 years, and have used them to store just about everything imaginable, from craft supplies to clothing.  They are still in PERFECT condition.  $48.00 for the set of three.  (just $38.40 with your 20% discount . . .  don’t forget to ASK for the discount!!)

This metal Eiffel Tower clock was in my booth at Stars for a while.  I found the metal cut out at a thrift shop and added the clockworks.  For some reason, people are compelled to ‘mess around with the clock hands’.  I fixed them are re-tightened the nut that holds the hands in place at least a dozen times.  Finally decided to bring it home when someone actually STOLE the nut and broke one of the hands?!?!  Fortunately I have a stash of ‘clock works’ on hand at home and was able to replace them.  Will be taking this to the Rebel Junk Show too.

I can’t wait to unpack all the goodies that I’ve been stashing away for the last year for this show.  It’s going to be like Christmas for me getting to see all the stuff again!

There’s still time to buy your tickets on-line and avoid waiting in the long line on the show dates.

Salvaged legs ~ New top.

Once again, I have forgotten the before picture,  sigh.

P1200303These pretty curved and carved legs were attached to the UGLIEST table top!! Formica topped particle board??!!?

P1200304The top it came with was a unique shape, one of those oval oblongs with points on the sides.  (I’m sure that shape has a name, but I’ve never been able to find it!)  Anyhoooooo . . . I initially thought about tracing the original shape onto this piece of wood to replicate it.  But when Michael laid this piece on top just to see if it was the right size, I decided the plain top looked better with the fancy legs.

P1200323

Painting those legs was quite the adventure!  I wanted to leave the carved parts their original dark brown, but painting around them proved nearly impossible.  So I tried my trusty small foam roller with very little paint on it.  Perfect!  Well, almost perfect.  Some of the paint still dripped into the carvings in a few places, and proved impossible to ‘wipe off’ completely.  I wiped the wet paint as best I could, then after my second coat of paint was dry, I ‘filled in’ those areas with brown paint and a small brush.

P1200322Then I hand sanded along the edges and outer curves of the legs.  The top, as you can see, I chose to pint solid white, and not distressed.  (because the wood that would show IF I did distress it was lighter in color than the legs.)   It’s probably going to be covered with stuff and barely seen anyhow??? Why spend a lot of time on a decorative paint job, right?

P1200751Available for purchase in my booth at Stars for $89.00.

Updated two tier round table

7.4.13 CUR + projects dresser 059LOVE this kind of table!!  Really want to keep one for myself, but they are so hard to find and always sell so well; I always end up selling them!  Oh well.  One of these days I’ll claim one for my very own.

P1080043Sanded off the existing finish with my orbital sander.  Applied two coats of paint.  Sanded to distress, then varnished the top.

P1080041I really thought LONG and hard about adding some kind of stenciled on design to the top tier.

P1080039Thought this French bee design might work, but the arch was too wide.

10.15.11 etsy signs finds 093This laurel leaf wreath and fleur de lis fit the space okay, but then I started second guessing myself?!?!?  Whomever purchases it will probably PUT stuff on the top so it won’t really even be visible!  So I refrained.

P1080044Didn’t want to make it TOO ‘Paris chic’ looking because I think it would be really cute in a beach cottage setting too.

P1080108It has gone to my booth at Curiosities in Beaverton.  $49.00

P1080106It’s displayed atop an upcycled aqua and white round table.  $37.00

P1080111I just added several new dessert pedestals and stands with dome lids to curiosities too.
