Long time, no blogging!

Sorry to have been MIA for so long!  Computer issues on TOP OF more computer issues have made it impossible for me to post to my blog for the last couple of weeks.  All’s well now and NOW I’m overwhelmed as to where to even start to get caught up on posts?!?!?

While I’ve not been able to blog, I have been doing a lot of junk shopping.  I guess I’ll show off my latest finds:

7.13.13 Both + finds 146Tall metal tower display unit with glass shelves.  Can’t decide if I want to paint it aqua or go more neutral with black???

7.13.13 Both + finds 192Not a great picture, but on the left is a wall towel rack with a bowl shape thing on the bottom.  On the right a funky little metal and wood stand.

7.13.13 Both + finds 194Wrought iron plant hanger.  Was a light green and I painted it black.

7.13.13 Both + finds 195Giant letter “A” is really HEAVY!  I’ll be repainting it and keeping it for my personal collection.

7.13.13 Both + finds 196Fabulous shabby old wash board with GLASS.

7.13.13 Both + finds 197Sweet bedside table to sand and repaint.

7.13.13 Both + finds 198Cutting boards and an apothecary chest.

7.13.13 Both + finds 199Wood spice rack WITH bottles.  (pretty rare to find a rack with all its original bottles!)

7.13.13 Both + finds 202Little wood cabinet.

7.13.13 Both + finds 203Opens up to shelves.

7.4.13 CUR + projects dresser 060

Simple tall skinny crate shelf.

P1070158A few of the finds have already been taken to one of my booths; like this sweet vintage ceramic white giraffe in my booth at Curiosities.

P1070145A ‘pie bird’ that has also gone to Curiosities.

P1070159A pretty crown topped display cage; Curiosities.

P1070160Ceramic owl that I painted white; Curiosities.

P1070151Scored a LOT of vintage white pitchers at the big rummage sale out in Buxton (which continues this weekend!) Took them all to Curiosities, but I also have a lot of white dishes, including pitchers in my booth at Stars.

P1070130Lots more cow pitchers to add to the barnyard at Curiosities!

P1070092Another one gallon big glass ‘mercantile jar’ (I have two more one gallon size) and a two gallon one; both with some decorative elements added.  I always use water soluble glue when adding labels to jars so they are easily removable if desired.  Just soak on warm soapy water and they will come right off.

P1070112Pretty wall towel hooks with scallop designs; Stars.

7.5.13 curiosities only 022Ginormous vintage cheese box; Curiosities.

7.4.13 CUR + projects dresser 059And my FAVORITE find, a two tier drum table!!!

7.4.13 CUR + projects dresser 069And for my ‘personal use’ I finally decided to start accumulating vintage dishes in this pattern. I have ALWAYS loved this pattern and ‘have thought about’ starting a collection for my own use every time I have come across them at a sale.  I finally caved and bought this dozen side plates.  It’s also an ‘easy design’ to blend with plain white dishes, just in case I can’t find everything I need in the pattern.

And now that I’ve done all that SHOPPING, I’ve got to start working on projects big time!

Small painting projects

6..22.13 Both + projects 035This BIG white spoon was upcycled from one of those ‘tiki style carved spoons’ .  I covered the carvings with spackle then sanded after it dried.  I think the NEXT time I do one I’ll try some FIMO clay to cover the carvings, as the spackle was difficult to work with on this particular surface.  Hand to gradually build it up, layer by layer.

6..18.13 projects Curiosities 020

Thrifted little foot stool.  Gave the top a good sanding and sanded what I could of the legs with my orbital sander.

6..25.13 projects big chair 027Painted ‘my blue’ and stenciled on “Paris”.

6..25.13 projects big chair 028Then varnished the top.

6..18.13 projects Curiosities 022

Thrifted wood bread box; again prepped by sanding as much area as possible with my orbital sander before painting.

6..25.13 projects big chair 032

A couple of coats of paint, then the same Paris stencil on top.

6..25.13 projects big chair 033A quick coat of varnish on the top only.

6..25.13 projects big chair 035I painted the inside of the LID, but left the rest of the inside (the same dark blue as the original outside) as was because it was in such good shape.

6..18.13 projects Curiosities 030

Thrifted wood tray.

6..25.13 projects big chair 031Same process!  I tend to ‘save up’ my small projects and do several of them at once.  Saves a lot of time in the long run.

6..18.13 projects Curiosities 037

Vintage wood bowl that I added other wood components to in order to create a pedestal bowl.  I used a small wood ‘candle cup’ as the stem and a wood plaque from the craft store as the base.

6..25.13 projects big chair 026

Simply painted and varnished this one.  No ‘decorative elements’  really needed because what the bowl gets FILLED with will give it enough ‘oomph’.

6..25.13 projects big chair 023No before picture of this one.  Bought a bunch of these vintage repro clothing racks ‘back when’ we had our shop.  The wire hangers come separate, so  it was easy to just sand off the old finish and repaint.  Then I used three different stencils, and put the racks on.

I have several MORE of these to re-do.  Should I work on a DIFFERENT something for the wording???  I’m not too keen on the three different fonts; but it’s all I could come up with at the time!

5.27.13 CURIOSITY baskets 018

Little wood box with hinged lid.  This picture was taken AFTER I had sanded off most of the painted on design.    You don’t really need to sand off ALL of the existing design before repainting.  Just enough so that the RAISED part of it won’t show.6..25.13 projects big chair 025

On this one, I base-coated it, inside and out, with black first.  (just in case I wanted to distress it; didn’t want RED showing through).  Left the inside black, and added a pretty piece of paper in the bottom of the box.

6..25.13 projects big chair 024And FINALLY broke out a different PARIS stencil!  (actually the other one didn’t FIT this lid!)

5.27.13 CURIOSITY baskets 015Another box; this one with a NOT hinged lid.  The stars were glued on tin; which I pried off with a paint scraper.

5.27.13 CURIOSITY baskets 017LOTS of sanding required on this one.  ( I usually don’t buy stuff made of press board.  But this was SUPER cheap!)

DOH!!!  I guess I forgot the ‘after’ picture of this one.  I don’t even REMEMBER what I did to it!!!  sigh

Well it’s SUPPOSED to be cooler today!  Hallelujah!  I was about ready to MELT in the heat these past few days.  And poor Michael has to WORK out in that heat all day!!  I would literally DIE if I had to work outside in that heat!  Hoping to get out and work on some furniture today.  Need to ’empty out’ my furniture storage shed to make room for NEW stuff.  Big rummage sale out in Buxton this weekend!

These items will be divided amongst Stars and Curiosities next week.

By JOVE! I think I’ve got it!!

I think I finally figured out my new digital camera and how to make the files smaller!  woo-hoo!!

I ended up having to go to the doctor last week for my latest two bee stings.  The red welt from the one on my hand was traveling UP my arm; and the welt from the sting near my elbow was traveling DOWN my arm and I had a ONE INCH strip on my arm where you could see them almost ready to overlap!  I looked like I had a ‘Popeye’ arm!  Remember when he ate his spinach and he got ginormous forearms?  Yep, I was looking pretty freakish!

I took this pic the day after my doctor’s appt and steroid shot, so the swelling had started going down quite a bit.  It looks like a bad BURN, doesn’t it?  Felt like it too!  And I have NO IDEA what the white ‘worm looking thing’ in the middle of the red spot is?!?!  But it’s STILL there and while the redness is mostly gone, that whole area feels like alligator skin!  YUK!

SO, anyhow . . . . I HAD to get to the doctor and take whatever appointment I could get at the last minute; and it was my errand and stock at Stars day.  I ended up being about 20 minutes early for my appt, so I got out my camera and ‘fiddled with it’ to get the flash turned off and adjust the file size of the pictures.  don’t ask me HOW I did.  I just did and that’s all that matters, right?  So NOW I can finally post new pictures from Stars!

The ‘wall booth’ hasn’t changed too much.  And THAT needs to change!  Just not sure WHAT I want to do with it next.  Maybe I’ll make it my ‘holiday space’ for the rest of the year???

I am not fond of the color orange, at ALL.  But I LOVE this orange and aqua fabric on the aqua chair.  I wish I’d bought MORE of it to make some throw pillows and maybe a foot stool.

It’s sitting on top of an upcycled round table.

Starfish painted around the rim of the table.

Two of these lamps with clear SEQUINS on them!

MIGHT have to bring this little step ladder home this week, if it hasn’t sold.  Saw a flea market mag today that had one used as a table base; and I have the perfect oval piece of wood I could use!

I’ve also been listing a LOT of new stuff in my  etsy shop.

Repurposed table leg

These unfinished wood table leg pieces Michael brought home were ‘a little chewed up’ around the top edges, (sorry! Forgot to take a BEFORE pic!)  But I remedied that by just rounding out the top curves on the best sander.

I added a beveled wood plaque (purchased at craft store) to the top and bottom; but it still needed more ‘weight’ at the bottom.  So I added a hunk of 2-6 and another, bigger beveled craft plaque.  You can see the three separate pieces at the bottom.

I painted them PINK and added some pretty brown details with foam stamps.

My initial thought was to use these as candle pedestals, but in a flash or creativity they became stands for a crown and a birdcage.

Not a very good picture of the one with the little crown on top!  It’s just to the right of the three tiered stand.

Outdated / updated little side table

Found this cute little side table at the thrift store.  Still in pretty good shape, just didn’t have much ‘personality’!

Decided to leave this one ‘very simple’.  Sanded the top, gave it a base coat with Kilz spray primer; then painted it wih a very soft pink egshell latex.

I should have taken a closu-up of the knob.  It is upcycled from another project.  It’s precelain with a pretty pink rose on it.

A perfect little bedside table!
